Carla P. Espinet-Crespo, MPH

Director of Emergency Management

Ms. Carla P. Espinet-Crespo, MPH joins our team as the Director of Emergency Management. Ms. Espinet is an epidemiologist with recent experience as the project manager and coordinator for one of the Puerto Rico Department of Health’s (PRDOH) largest public health surveillance programs. She also served as a database manager during the Zika epidemic for the Emergency Operation Center of the PRDOH.  She was instrumental in the monitoring and dissemination of arboviral diseases data. She also worked as an epidemiologist for the Hurricane Maria Emergency Response Team, gathering information, performing contact tracing and reporting information of infectious diseases of public shelters. She was also in charge of designing and implementing data collection protocols, and trained medical abstractors and other health professionals in topics related to birth defects and folic acid. 

Ms. Espinet-Crespo has collaborated with the PRDOH and the Center for Diseases Control and Prevention in numerous publications for the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Reports, and the National Birth Defects and Prevention Network.

Ms. Espinet-Crespo holds a Bachelors Degree in Biomedical Sciences from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico and a Masters Degree in Public Health from Ponce Health Sciences University.
