Background: Sponsored detention center focuses on providing emotional support, guidance, and rehabilitative services to detainees. Their role often overlaps with that of case managers but places a stronger emphasis on counseling, mental health support, and behavioral interventions.

Place of Performance: Bayamon, Puerto Rico, with potential travel to the United States.

Schedule: Flexible Schedule

Minimum Qualifications & Skills

• A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work

• One (1)+ year of demonstrated experience in case management

• Bilingual in English and Spanish

• Available to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends

• Available to travel, as required

• Clean criminal background check

• Must possess strong computer skills in MS Office, including Excel, Word, Teams

• Ability to type 45 wpm

The Work Environment 

• You will be required to complete 2 weeks of training to include webinars and in-person sessions on-site, Temporary Duty Travel (TDY)

• The ability to travel – Social Workers may be required to support a TDY assignment on-site. Employees must be willing to travel within 2 weeks of notification.

• Tasks/assignments are dynamic and will change based on client needs and resource availability, meaning Social Workers are expected to provide additional administrative support, including the completion of data entry and intake paperwork as required

Work Schedule

• Due to the importance of this position, employees supporting this contract may be required to work extended hours including evening work, support on-call assignments, and work weekends to support time-sensitive or real-time complex services

• This position is considered ESSENTIAL – Social Workers are required to report and work during emergencies or crises, including inclement weather, natural and man-made disasters, etc

Conditions of employment

• Complete a rigorous culture and competency testing process

• Complete a Drug Test

• Must be at least 21 years of age

• A valid U.S. Driver’s license

• Available to travel as necessary

 Security Clearance Requirements

• Applicants selected will be subject to a government background investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

• Must be a U.S. Citizen

Duties and Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

• Providing counseling to help detainees cope with stress, anxiety, and trauma.

• Facilitating group counseling sessions or workshops on topics such as stress management, conflict resolution, and emotional regulation.

• Supporting detainees in addressing behavioral issues or mental health challenges.

• Conducting psychological and emotional assessments to determine detainees’ needs.

• Identifying signs of mental health issues, including depression, PTSD, or suicidal ideation.

• Responding to crises, such as suicide attempts, self-harm, or severe emotional distress.

• Developing safety plans in collaboration with medical and security staff.

• Acting as a mediator in conflicts between detainees.

• Offering programs to help detainees develop coping strategies and life skills.

• Preparing detainees for reintegration into society or life post-detention by providing tools for resilience and adaptability.

• Keeping detailed records of counseling sessions, assessments, and progress.

• Preparing reports on detainees’ emotional and behavioral status for internal use or submission to ICE or legal representatives.

• Working closely with case managers, healthcare providers, and detention staff to provide holistic care.

• Ensuring detainees’ emotional and psychological needs are considered in their overall detention and care plans.
