Vice President of Taxation

Mr. Simón E. Carlo-Valentín, Esq., CPA, MBA joined Caduceus as Vice President of Taxation of the Company. He oversees the corporate tax function, including internal and external resources, ultimately providing guidance on tax compliance, tax audits, proposed legislation and other tax matters while also working directly with the CEO & CFO to develop and implement sound strategic tax planning and structuring opportunities to achieve corporate goals.

Mr. Carlo-Valentín hails from Mayagüez, Puerto Rico and obtained a Bachelor’s in Sciences of Business Administration with honors, majoring in Finance & Accounting. He also obtained a Juris Doctor with honors and a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Puerto Rico at Rio Piedras. While in law school, he passed all four parts of the CPA examination, was a Director of the Business Law Journal and was part of the winning team of the first Law School Legislative Debate.

Right after graduation he joined the Asset & Wealth Management Practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP. There he had the opportunity to work on tax consulting and compliance matters at the Federal, State & Local levels for a wide array of entities, including corporations, partnerships, real estate investment trusts, among others, that invested primarily in real estate. During his time in PwC he had the opportunity to become Puerto Rico’s sole member in the Firm’s Management Advisory Committee at the New York Metro Office, championing for equality and representation for Puerto Rico employees. 

From there he joined the leading Tax Advisory Services practice at BDO in Puerto Rico. There he had the opportunity to work on tax incentives applications, tax planning opportunities and other complex tax matters concerning tax exemptions, tax incentives, voluntary disclosure agreements and the representation of clients both before Federal and Local agencies.

Mr. Carlo-Valentín is admitted to practice law before the Puerto Rico Supreme Court, the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico, is a Public Notary and a member of the Puerto Rico Society of Certified Public Accountants.   

Mr. Carlo-Valentín is happily married, is an avid sports fan and enjoys cooking.
